Off the air – getting back to nature with no internet

We lost our internet connection recently and therefore had to live at one with the land like people did a hundred years ago (well, we still had email access through our iphones, but the connection for internet access is pretty poor over a mobile device).

Just like in the movies, we struggled for a while and then learned a great deal about ourselves ….or not as the case may be.

I have often had people tell me that we should lead a simpler life without some of life’s modern “distractions”.  However I have decided that good internet access is not one of life’s distractions but rather a simplifying force that allows us to live as nature intended.

So – if you want to really get back to nature then go bush and sleep under a tree, to experience the rain, the cold, the sun and the raw beauty of nature … but it you want to start making accommodations for modern life, then start with clean water, then maybe clothes and a tent and then good bandwidth.

BTW – still annoyed that our equipment failed, but kudos to Optus for fixing it with no questions asked or hassles inflicted.  Even if it did take 3 days for a technician to be available because there was a storm.
